CCC at the Mingalaga Bush Meeting 2007

9th - 12th July 2007

Thinking from the Bush Meeting...

"Our education is out here in the bush.”

“In our learning the curriculum goes side by side- we learn science, the environment, land management, health, medicine, food and how to save game for the next generation… we learn all these things together.”

“At least 50% ... or up to 90% of time children need to learn on country.”

Where?

What Indigenous women said they would like to different in 5 years time:

  • Language taught in schools. From young to year 12.
  • A balance of English and Indigenous language… in classrooms and out of class rooms.
  • Children going onto country to learn.... not only in school
  • “At least 50%... or up to 90% of time children need to learn on country”
  • School must be meaningful… all the way to high school.
  • “In our learning the curriculum goes side by side- we learn science, the environment, land management, health, medicine, food and how to save ame for the enxt generation… we learn all these things together”
  • "Our education is out here in the bush.”
  • We want to do two way learning… and be recognised for our knowledge..
  • Qualifications on site… not go away.
  • To be somebody… so we can make the future happy.
  • Proper wages aid in schools for Aboriginal Teacher Aides.
